Quilt Store Challenge
This is the second year I have done the quilting challenge at my local Quilt Store. This year the challenge was to randomly pick a crayon from a container and then use that crayon as inspiration to pick out a fat quarter in the store to use for your challenge. I picked the cerulean crayon. Using that color, I chose a blue fabric
with colorful flowers. The second part of the challenge was to randomly pick a bag with two more crayons in it. I
chose a bag with a blue green crayon and a scarlet crayon. The idea was to use fabrics that were inspired by those colors as well.
I used my first fabric that I chose as inspiration for the pattern of my quilt top. I was inspired by the curves in the fabric so, I decided to try curves for the first time. I found a clamshell design online that had a easy way of doing it my machine, so I used that technique. Here is the link to the tutorial by: http://www.asquaredw.com/2012/11/machine-pieced-clamshell-tutorial.html.
After making the quilt top, I decided to make it into a sewing machine mat and caddy with pockets to put under my sewing machine and store things I need while sewing. Missouri Star Quilting Company has a video tutorial on how to make one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bN2oNZFKng.

I
will use it as a mat for my showing machine. I love the colors and it makes me
happy looking at it! These challenges
are a fun way to practice new things and to make a few mistakes.
(Sorry, for the quality of the pictures. I took these at a crafting weekend and I did not have my camera, only my phone to take pictures. I will update with better pictures, when I get the mat back from the quilt store. I turned it in for the challenge.)
