#quiltsforvegas

I made my first quilt top to give away. I made a quilt top for the Las Vegas Modern Quilting Guild. They are taking quilts and making quits for victims of the mass shooting that took place on October 1st, 2017.

The guild had instructions on what they wanted us to make. They wanted us to use a grayscale blocks with happy colors. I used material that I had on hand. I found a small piece of fleece fabric with the words love on it and I used that as a guide for the color of  my other blocks. They also wanted us to do a heart shape block. I found a purple fabric to do it in. I think the quilt top came out pretty well.

This is the letter I sent in with my quilt top:

Hello,

My name is Sonya Luna. I am not a member of a quilting guild. I am a beginner quilter and I wanted to send something to help. I completed a quilt top, while it is not perfect, it was made with love. Thank you for all your efforts in getting quilts out to the families of the victims and first responders. I am from Ypsilanti, Michigan. My aunt is actually a nurse in Las Vegas and helped some of the victims.  It breaks my heart to keep seeing people affected my senseless violence.

Many Blessings,

Sonya Luna

While, I loved making this quilt because it was going to go to a good cause, it did cause me some trouble to put together. I couldn't get my blocks to all match up. I think that might have to do with the fact that I used different kinds of materials. Some materials stretched and some didn't stretch. I sure learned a lot. And, my husband loved the quilt top. The next thing on my to do list is to make a quilt for our ten year anniversary, which already passed!
